The Xenia Hotel in Nafplio was built in 1961 on the Akronaflia peninsula — the site of former political prisons where thousands of left-wing activists were imprisoned from 1937. Architect Ioannis Triantafyllidis designed a luxury modernist hotel with 100 beds. It operated until at least 2000, was sold to new owners who planned renovation but left it to collapse instead.
