Urbexeur - Urban exploration is a set of practices, with motivations that can vary widely. The taste for adventure is one element. Some are drawn to the historical aspect, the old and the abandoned. Many urbexers are interested in heritage issues and believe that urbex, under certain conditions, helps to preserve the history and memory of sites. Sometimes urban explorations help to save or report abandoned documentary archives.
For others, it will be mastering the modern city and its behind-the-scenes. Photography and video are also important motivations. Groups often form around one of these practices. In France more than elsewhere, practitioners tend to specialize strongly: some only explore the catacombs, others only rooftops or metro visits.
