Instagram is a great tool to find clues about places. Just search for photos by typing #urbex or #urbexlille or something else. You can easily find photos of abandoned places in your area. Then, the author may have given other clues about the place directly on the post. See if the photo has been pinned to a specific location, analyze the hashtag and the text of the post. There are many clues like this

Observe

It seems obvious and yet… We spend so much time on our smartphones that we sometimes forget to look up. We all remember seeing abandoned places in our region at some point. Why not dig into your childhood memories to try to find a spot that reminds you of something? Don’t hesitate to walk around the streets of your region and observe carefully. You’re bound to find something!

Browse blogs that talk about urbex

A technique that you have certainly already tried is to look for urbex blogs on the Internet. Then you just have to search by region or analyze the photos carefully. Sometimes, some photos can leave real clues with even sometimes the apparent addresses: newspaper, invoice, postcard, etc.

Don’t hesitate to type “urbex blog and your region” to refine your search and find something concrete.

Do spot swapping

Admit it, you've already tried to contact someone to get information about a place. Know that it can be really annoying to receive requests like that. Some people receive dozens of requests as soon as they post a new place... Wouldn't you like to go through the same thing? On the other hand, also know that this person is like you and that they are also looking for other spots. So it can be a good opportunity to offer them information about a spot that you have already explored and that they have chosen. With this method, you could really get more precise information. However, don't overdo it... Urban exploration requires respecting rules of good conduct!

Browse Google News

More and more media like to write articles on the theme of urbex. And to find these articles, Google News is the tool you need! Open Google, then click on News. Then try typing keywords like abandoned, disused, derelict, etc. You can refine your search by adding your city or region. You will see that you will quickly find urbex places!

Google Earth is your friend

We all know Google Earth but we are not necessarily used to using it. Launch the tool then try to find places by browsing the map. If you have applied some of the steps explained above, you will have ideas for spots without knowing the location. In this case, browse the region looking for this place on Google Earth!
