Nestled on the outskirts of Toulouse, the grounds of the Wysteria Retirement Home have a rich and complex history. Originally designed as a specialised cancer screening unit, the building underwent an unexpected transformation during the war, when it was used as a refuge for Spanish refugees, providing a haven of peace amidst the turmoil of that dark time.
However, with the passage of time and the evolution of medical and social needs, the Wysteria Retirement Home was gradually abandoned. The end of the 70s marked the beginning of its abandonment, while new, more modern and better equipped retirement facilities were built in the Toulouse metropolitan area.
Today, the Wysteria Estate remains frozen in time, its corridors once filled with care and solidarity now echoing with silence. The windows bear witness to lives past, but years of neglect have left their mark on the crumbling walls and once verdant gardens.
