ABANDONED ZOO

Essonne, a department located in Île-de-France, is also home to fascinating abandoned places, including some zoos that were once popular destinations for families and nature lovers. These abandoned zoos now offer unsettling exploratory experiences, testifying to their past history and decline.

One such abandoned zoo in Essonne is the Zoo de Vincennes, also known as the Parc Zoologique de Vincennes. Located in the Bois de Vincennes, this historic zoo was opened in 1934 and attracted visitors for decades with its many animal species. However, due to issues with dilapidated facilities and other factors, the zoo was closed in 2008 for renovations. Since then, it has remained abandoned onné, although renovation projects have been considered.

Another example is the Courcelles-sur-Yvette Zoo, located in the commune of the same name. This zoo was established in the 1960s and was a popular place for locals and visitors alike. However, due to financial difficulties and issues with compliance with animal welfare standards, the zoo was forced to close its doors in 2008. Since then, it has remained abandoned, although preservation initiatives have been launched to save some of its buildings and structures.

These abandoned zoos in Essonne offer urban explorers and history buffs a unique opportunity to discover places full of history and emotion. However, it is important to note that visiting these sites can present safety risks, and it is recommended to approach them with caution and respect.
